Biography

Dr. Amel Meddeb Ouertani is Professor of Ophthalmology, graduated from Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris. Her clinical interests include cornea and glaucoma. She served as head of the Ophthalmic Department at Charles Nicolle University Hospital. She established twinning programs with Pretoria, Alexandria and Nagasaki Universities and served as member of the Pan Arab Board of Specializations. She trained hundreds of Tunisian residents and African colleagues. She is former President of the Tunisian Ophthalmological Society, Founding President of the Tunisian Society of Aerospace Medicine and the African Society of Glaucoma. She served as member of the Advisory Board of ICO and the Global Outreach committee of the AAO. She also served as Tunisian national coordinator for prevention of blindness As general Secretary of “Nadi Al Bassar”, a leading NGO in the region, she has participated in many eye camps and developed a clear understanding of Eye health status in Africa. She is currently executive Vice-President of the Middle East African Council of Ophthalmology; Secretary General of the Middle East African Glaucoma Society and International Coordinator for Glaucoma at the WOC. Dr Ouertani received several national and regional awards.
